Waiting for the Winter - Light Night 2010
Last week I was involved in Light Night in Leeds.
Bascially it's a night of multi-art-celebrations that happens all around the city, where people do stuff for arts sake.
As an honorary member of Knit a Bear Face, I was invited to knit for a statue in Leeds City Centre.
I was knitting for James Watt, the Scottish Inventor. We decided that he needed a hat, beard and ginger locks.
Because I had to finish Uni and get the train from Nottingham, mine was one of the last pieces to be put up. But it was pretty cool sitting waiting for the guys, as the passers by began to notice the knitted accessories worn by the other statues :)
I've uploaded my pictures of most of the Knit a Bear Face Light Night knits here... so go have a look!
Big thanks to the Victoria for providing shelter for Knit a Bear face to knit and sup, Designer Yarns for donations and Mildred and everyone else for doing a lot of hard work.
More about Light Night here...
Here's the Knit a Bear Face group
Here's lots of photo's of everything that was happening at Light night

Textile Institute Student Design Competition Entry
The brief was to design a furoshiki that would appeal to delegates at the 100th anniversary conference.
(Originating from Japanese culture where it promotes caring for the environment and reducing waste; Furoshiki is the eco-friendly wrapping cloth. Using techniques similar to origami, it can be used for gift wrapping, grocery shopping or simply as decor. Choose from a wide variety of sizes and designs to complement your lifestyle. Why furoshiki? It is reusable and multipurpose. Each year billions of plastic bags end up as litter; reusable bags, such as furoshiki can help reduce the impact to our environment. Its versatility allows you to wrap almost anything regardless of its shape or size.)

I mulled this over in my head for ages, and then when it came to it just wanted to design something I'd like myself!

Brudenell, baby.
Having the best nephew in the world means I have the opportunity to make sure he's well dressed.
Here he is modelling a funky green version of the classic Brudenell Social Club shirt I made him just using computer transfer paper.

20 fairy costumes
My mums school is quite poor, and in her nursery department, the dressing up box contains mostly fairy outfits.
I've been meaning to wack something up for a while, but last night with my sewing machine out I finally had the urge.
She told me tabbard style tops with velcro fasteners on the sides, were the best for the kids.
They're a bit rushed, but i don't think the kids will mind!

So at school i was shown how to embroider on a machine last week. I LIKE IT!
I did this one completely free hand. i coloured in the heart and the clothes with a satin stitch (really close zig zags)

Sock Bunny
Last easter I made a sock bunny for a friend. When my mum saw it, she tried to steal it.
So i made her one for her birthday this year.
I found the pretty socks in ASDA. Promise i'll write a tutorial next time i make one!

In the beginning...
There once was a little girl, who loved to make things.
She did things like filled her garden shed with cardboard shoes she had made from the surplus from her Dad's office, then try and convince her family they were the bees knees.
Her first set of fabric markers changed her life, and her first sewing machine even more.
The little girl loved bits and bobs so much, she would have the oddest collection, just incase she could make something out of them one day.
Anyway, this girl grew up, and kept making more, and collecting more, and this is where we begin.
