Guess Who

My extended family at The Rescue Rooms asked me to personalise a special edition Guess Who for their games cupboard.

Here's what we came up with working together.

Necklace organiser!

Been meaning to do this for ages.
I was planning to get some MDF and nails, but in the end used a pinboard, and folded and pinned a piece of pretty fabric in place. (actually makes it more versatile because I can move the pins)

ta daa!

Get your stag and hen t-shirts here!

When it came to my brother's stag do, of course everyone wanted a Forward Russia ¡! t-shirt with their own name on the back.

(Look at this cute gif I found someone made!?)

Anyway. I was more than happy to oblige to make 18 forward russia shirts for the boys to get boozey in Berlin.

Cue a couple of days solid painting.....hey, that's what holidays are made for!

Plushie Letters

After seeing something similar in a Wedding magazine, I decided to make some plushie letters for my cousins wedding as a surprise.

She had chosen a selection of fabrics which all the soft furnishings and stationary were based around, and so I used those to write 'Mr & Mrs Abbott' along the bunting.

Leaving it sort of to the last minute, I was sewing up til 1am the night before the wedding, but I am still pretty pleased with how they look, next time I would just double check the letter spacings!

Wedding Invites

I designed and made the wedding invitations for my cousin, based on a selection of fabrics she had chosen.

We agreed on making cream invites for day guests and pink for evening guests.

She specifically wanted to use the rose detail of the fabric design, and so I scaled the invitations up to do this, and also make the text a comfortable size to stitch.
The fabric invites were then scanned to produce the printed invites, which meant the couple were able to frame the originals as a keep sake.

All the text is hand stitched and decoration is appliqued.
(there is a faint line across these images from where they have been scanned!)

Bono has the biggest collection of hatchbacks in the UK

We decided to play tribute to Alan Partridge at this years Glastonbury, with a flag.

I don't think I need to say anymore.

The making was a team effort from me and Mr Ian Beverley.

Art Therapy Workshop

So after considering a career in Art Therapy for a long while, I went to Goldsmiths and did a Summer School to get a clearer picture of what the training and job actually entails.

It was a really interesting week, learnt a lot about how training, group and individual sessions are conducted. Also made some really good friends.

We did one piece of group art during the week, and I just really loved the outcome I wanted to share it.
Maybe I'd like to use it as an album cover someday.
Part of it still exists, most of it was binned. It was one of those event type pieces of work.

Wiggely Bag

Wiggely bags are used for children undergoing treatment for cancer. It is used to hold their central line tube, which will be with them throughout their treatment to give medicines and take blood (thus avoiding the need for needles).

I made this one for a very good friend, whos little trooper is recieving treatment.

It's basically a little drawstring bag.
If you have a spare few minutes with your sewing machine out, please make one because they're in short supply and much needed. I'm hoping to make a few more.
 Here's a pattern and tutorial

Project update...

For this project I'm working on portraits... this is going to be a cross stitch of my brother.

A sample of my Dad using a cold Batik wax with a stencil before dying.

And the only drawing I've done so far that looks vaguely like who it's meant to be!

Steve Zissou

If you haven't seen the film The Life Aquatic, you won't appreciate it as much, and I strongly recommend you watch it as it's one of my favourites.

But I made this for my friends birthday on Friday. The doll is calico with clothes made from scraps I had.

Halloweeeeeeeeen

I love dressing up, so i was mega disappointed when I had to leave a Halloween party for a stupid migrane. (and I didn't get a better picture of my outfit) Anyway, here's our costumes.

L-R
Laurence - Pacman, Scott - Pacman Ghost Red, Me - Tippi Hedren in The Birds, Andie - Pignose (it was a last minute thought).
(BTW i'm in character for the photo, not just seen a rat...)

And well done to the boys who won the best costume!
(even though their seams were 'sewn' with staples and cellotape.....)
